All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition is 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 at Los Alamos High School’s Griffith Gymnasium.

Anyone interested in volunteering with the Los Alamos Little League organization is invited to a 5:30 p.m. meeting today at Zia Realty Group, 1475 Ste. 150, at the corner of Central Avenue and 15th Street.

The organization is seeking volunteer coaches as well as board volunteers.

The Los Alamos Golf Course is one of six courses featured in Bradley S. Klein’s “Wide Open Fairways: A Journey Across the landscapes of Modern Golf.”

Klein is architecture editor of “Golfweek” magazine and runs its national golf course rating system. In the course of writing the book, Klein visited courses in locales ranging from The Bronx to North Dakota.

Los Alamos High School sophomore Sarah Lott successfully claimed the longest standing record (almost 28 years) last weekend in the 100 butterfly race at the Academy Invitational meet in Albuquerque.
