The HMS Implacable, the Santa Fe/Los Alamos Chapter of the Honor Harrington Fan Association, is pleased to announce its Toys for Tots Drive, to take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Metzger’s Do It Best Hardware at 1607 Central Ave., in Los Alamos.

Toys For Tots is a national charity organized by the United States Marines Corps Reserve. Its goal is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

New Mexico Ranks 35th On Tax Competitiveness

WASHINGTON, D.C. — New Mexico has the 35th most competitive tax code in the nation according to the 12th annual edition of the State Business Tax Climate Index released by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation.
 
The report measures how well-structured each state’s tax code is by analyzing over 100 tax variables in five different categories: corporate, individual income, sales, property, and unemployment insurance taxes.

Martinez Announces $1 Million Expansion Of CYFD’s Family Support Worker Program

LOS LUNAS — Gov. Susana Martinez has announced a $1 million expansion of the Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD) Family Support Worker program, which she initiated as a pilot program in Bernalillo County in April of 2014.
 
The program will now serve six New Mexico counties and provides specifically high-risk families with service and support aimed at preventing child maltreatment.

Heinrich Urges President To Work With Bipartisan Group To Protect Working Americans From Cadillac Tax

WASHINGTON, D.C.  U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) joined U.S. Sens. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and U.S. Reps. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) and Frank Guinta (R-N.H.) in sending a letter to President Barack Obama requesting a bipartisan, bicameral meeting to discuss a plan to eliminate the “Cadillac Tax,” a 40 percent excise tax on health insurance plans set to take effect in 2018.
