Udall, Heinrich Stand Up For NM College Students; Call For Renewal Of Perkins Loan Program

WASHINGTON, D.C.  U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M. and Martin Heinrich, D-N.M. have sent a letter, cosigned by the majority of the Senate, to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Harry Reid urging them to take up and pass legislation to reauthorize the Federal Perkins Student Loan Program.

NNSA Labs Host Foreign Disarmament Experts

WASHINGTON, D.C. Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) hosted a visit Oct. 26-27, by eight foreign disarmament and nonproliferation experts to demonstrate the technologies and capabilities through which the United States maintains the nuclear weapon stockpile in a non-testing environment. 

This visit built on the success of the first visit by NPT Non-Nuclear Weapon State representatives in advance of the NPT Review Conference in May.

Nina Lanza, of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Space and Remote Sensing group, was selected as one of eight members for the 2015-2016 field campaign of the Antarctica Search for Meteorites (ANSMET) program, which is supported by NASA.

The Department of Energy Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA) has prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment for the Chromium Plume Control Interim Measure and Plume-Center Characterization at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

This document describes the potential environmental impacts associated with the proposed actions in Mortandad Canyon. The objectives of the proposed actions are to control migration of the chromium plume and to further characterize and study the chromium plume in the groundwater beneath Mortandad Canyon.

PED Revises PARCC Results

We received a text from the Public Education Department that their original information about the definition of “proficient” was incorrect.

Following is the revised criteria: students are considered “proficient” if they score at a level of 4 or 5. (The initial information from PED stated that levels 3, 4, and 5 were “proficient”)

The test scores did not change.

For high school graduation, a score of level 3, 4, or 5 will be accepted for the classes of 2016 and 2017. In future years, a score of level 4 or 5 will be required for graduation. Read More
