‘Culture Day’ At Roundhouse Offers Best Of State Museums And Historic Sites

SANTA FE  The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs will host “Culture Day” 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday at the State Capitol Rotunda.
 
Interactive exhibits featuring New Mexico’s state-run museums and historic sites, as well as arts, historic preservation, archaeology and library programs will be offered to legislators and visitors to the Capitol throughout the day:
  • New Mexico Arts will provide “Oculus Rift Glasses” offering the wearer a cutting edge virtual “Pull of the Moon Experience.”

Jack R. Fox Unanimously Confirmed As Secretary Of New Mexico Department Of Veterans’ Services

SANTA FE—Retired New Mexico Army National Guard Brigadier General Jack R. Fox was unanimously confirmed today by the New Mexico Senate as Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services.

The vote by the full Senate followed Secretary Fox’s confirmation hearing at 8:30 a.m., before the Senate Rules Committee.

Gov. Susana Martinez appointed him to the position following the resignation of Timothy L. Hale in November 2014.

NMAA Foundation Awards $28K In Scholarships

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) has announced the recipients of the 2014-2015 NMAA Foundation Scholarships.  
 
The NMAA Foundation will recognize the 17 students receiving these scholarships during the U.S. Bank State Basketball Championships, which will be held March 10-14. More than 200 students applied for the scholarships, with nine students receiving $1,000, six receiving $1,500 and two receiving $5,000. There were seven different scholarship categories for which students could submit applications.

Scheduled speakers were industry heavyweights like Bill Pitesa, the chief nuclear officer at Duke Energy, and David Brown, the senior vice president for federal government affairs at Exelon.

Udall Announces Support For Investing Portion Of $14B Permanent Fund In Early Childhood Education

U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., recently challenged state lawmakers to address the needs of New Mexico’s children and he proposed using the Land Grant Permanent Fund to benefit the state’s youngest citizens’ education needs.

Udall has endorsed the constitutional amendment proposal to invest 1.5 percent of the more than $14 billion in the Land Grant Permanent Fund to expand early childhood education in New Mexico.
