DOE Releases WIPP Recovery Plan

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released the WIPP Recovery Plan Tuesday, which outlines the key activities, management approach and strategies that will be used to meet the current goal of resuming operations by the first quarter of calendar year 2016.
The plan also includes the projected schedule and costs associated with resumption of waste emplacement at WIPP. Bandelier National Monument has announced five special programs being offered in October – two photo hikes with the park Artist-in-Residence, two Night Sky Programs being presented by a staff ranger who is a long-time astronomy enthusiast and teacher, and a Wilderness hike with the park Trails Lead.
Saturday, Oct. 4, Artist-in-Residence David Halpern will lead a photo hike on the Cerro Grande Trail. The trail is about 5 miles round trip with a rise of 2,000 feet, to the rim of the Valles Caldera at nearly 11,000 feet. Read More
New Missile Defense Work Coming To New Mexico

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M. announced Wednesday that IEC-SoCal Braiding and Continental Machine were awarded contracts to manufacture missile defense components in Albuquerque.
The contracts are part of a $149 million contract awarded to Raytheon by Rafael for the Iron Dome Weapon short-range rocket defense system.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation’s (NMDOT) Park and Ride regional bus service transit information is now available on Google Maps.
This provides riders with easy access to directions, schedules, bus stops, bus routes, and other information that will help them enjoy a seamless trip. The Trip Planning feature of Google Maps is an easy to use component. Riders type in an origin, destination and select the Transit icon, which allows them to pick the trip that works best for them.

ALBUQUERQUE – USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner presented a certificate of obligation Friday to fund the expansion of recycling efforts in rural New Mexico to the New Mexico Recycling Coalition.
