NMDOT Issues Reminder About Political Signs

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) wants to remind political campaigns about the public safety issue regarding placing campaign signs and posters in state highway right-of-ways.

State highway right-of-ways mean all roads, patrol yards and rest areas owned, controlled or maintained by the NMDOT. The term “road” means the entire width of the right of way, including, but not limited to travel lanes, roadside, shoulder, median, ditches, culverts, ramps, turnouts and easements.

WIPP Facilities Mostly Unscathed As SENM Deals With Hurricane Odile

Hurricane Odile left its mark on Southeastern New Mexico, but the WIPP facility came away mostly unscathed with two brief partial power outages that delayed entries into the underground facility last week.

LANL Scientist Begins Rim-To-Rim-To-Rim Grand Canyon Trek For Charity Wednesday

Beginning at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist Pawel Listwan and Albuquerque attorney Matt Vance will step off the South Rim from the Bright Angel Trailhead in pre-dawn darkness Wednesday for a 48-mile “Feat for Justice” fundraising hike to support New Mexico Legal Aid’s Veterans Justice Project.

New Mexico Shares Portion Of More Than $1.6 Million In FEMA Preparedness Grants

DENTON, Texas — Emergency management agencies in five states – New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas – have been awarded more than $1.6 million in preparedness grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In New Mexico, grants totaling $120,016 cover firefighting equipment for:

  • Ohkay Owingeh Fire Department;
  • Newkirk Fire Department in Santa Rosa; and
  • Health screenings and physicals for the Santa Fe Fire Department.
