NMDOT Seeks Comment On STIP
NMDOT News:
SANTA FE – The public is invited to comment on the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s 5th amendment to the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
The program will serve as a four-year plan for the state’s federal aid highway program. The STIP contains proposed road and bridge projects and is required under the federal legislation. Projects on the list are on federal and state highways (roads with I, U.S. or NM designations).

Pino Fire Grows To 26 Acres Since Aug. 13
SFNF News:
The lightning caused Pino Fire, on Santa Fe National Forest’s Jemez Ranger District, was first sighted Aug. 13 when it was approximately ½ acre in size.
Because the fire was smoldering, no imminent growth was anticipated, a flash flood warning had been issued for the area, and access to the site was limited, no immediate action was taken.
Personnel were able to reach the fire Friday and verified that it was caused by a lightning strike. It is now 26 acres and burning on a spur ridge south of Forest Road 270BC, six miles east of Jemez Springs. It is located in the northern unit of the Paliza Read More

Healing America’s Heroes Announces Grand Opening Pilot Program

Healing America’s Heroes (HAH) is accepting applications from veterans for its Grand Opening Pilot Program.
The pilot program will give 10 veterans an opportunity to enrich their lives by building skills in horsemanship and fly-fishing. All meals, lodging (tent city) and therapeutic programs are provided at no cost to veterans.
The one-week program is Sept. 14-20 at a private, 10-acre retreat in Plaza Blanca, N.M.

Belen Pecan Farm Goes Solar

ALBUQUERQUE – USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner was in Belen Friday to dedicate a solar power system, which is providing electricity to run the Burris Pecan Farm.
The Four Daughters Land and Cattle Company, which owns the farm was awarded a $107,100 Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant administered by Rural Development’s business program. The grant was used to offset the cost of the construction of the $428,402 solar power system.

NM Gas Company Performing Maintenance Southwest of Quemazon Tuesday

New Mexico Gas Company (NMGC) will perform maintenance/system improvement work on the gas transmission line in the Los Alamos area Monday, Aug.18 through Wednesday, Aug. 20.
The work will require the “blow-down” of the natural gas transmission line near the Forest Service boundary and Solana Road (southwest of the Quemazon subdivision) Tuesday morning, Aug. 19.
