State Police Checkpoints/Saturation Patrols Underway

New Mexico State Police (NMSP) will be conducting Sobriety Checkpoints, Saturation Patrols and Registration, Insurance and Drivers’ License Checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of July 2014.

Helicopters Pass Above Los Alamos To Fight Diego Fire
A helicopter was spotted flying above Los Alamos several times Tuesday that was heading to drop fire retardent on the Diego Fire near Coyote. Full suppression actions will continue today with crews taking advantage of higher humidity and more favorable weather conditions. Anchor points have been established and crews and dozers will continue to build line around the fire. Personnel continue to assess structures and remove fuel where necessary. Funds Help Make College Education More Affordable

Gov. Susana Martinez announced the awarding of $750,000 in scholarship funds to New Mexico higher education institutions to help make college education more affordable for New Mexicans.
These scholarships will be given to students in awards of up $1,000. The funding will also be expanded to include fees, books and supplies. The funding, which will be available for Fiscal Year 2015, is a $250,000 increase from funding levels in past years.

New Mexico One of Five States Receiving $1.7 Million in FEMA Fire Preparedness Grants

Fire departments in five states, including New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas have been awarded more than $1.69 million in preparedness grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
In New Mexico, the grant totals $84,093 and covers the cost of firefighting equipment and wellness and fitness equipment for the City of Alamogordo Fire Department.

The FBI and local law enforcement authorities are asking for the public’s help in solving six bank robberies that occurred in the Albuquerque area in June.
