Udall Secures Resources for N.M. Wildfire Prevention, Border Security, FLETC in DHS Appropriations Bill

U.S. Sen. Tom Udall joined the Appropriations Committee June 26 in approving a bill that provides critical Fiscal Year 2015 funding to protect New Mexico’s border, ensure our ports of entry operate smoothly and address the use of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Artesia to detain women and children in removal proceedings.

Udall also included an amendment that would help New Mexico communities prevent serious wildfires. The amendment would allow state and local governments to qualify for hazard mitigation grants – a pool of funding

DOE Project Captures Million-plus Metric Tons of CO2

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in partnership with Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., has announced a major milestone: successfully capturing more than one million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) at the hydrogen-production facility in Port Arthur, Texas.
Using an innovative technology called vacuum swing adsorption, the project captures more than 90 percent of the CO2 from the product stream of two commercial-scale steam methane reformers that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere.

As part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, the Department of Energy (DOE) today announced a new energy efficiency standard for furnace fans, the latest of eight finalized standards, and nine proposed standards issued since the Climate Action Plan was announced last year.
