SANTA FE – Gov. Susana Martinez signed March 10 Senate Bill 206, Foster Care System Student Tuition Waiver, sponsored by Sen. George Munoz, D-Cibola, McKinley and San Juan.

The legislation signs into state law that college tuition and fees be waived for certain children who have been in the foster care of the state or in the legal custody of a New Mexico Indian nation, tribe or pueblo or the United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs Division of Human Services.

WIPP UPDATE: Internet Rumors About Safety Concerns Are Inaccurate

An Internet rumor has been fueling concerns about the need to be prepared to evacuate southeastern New Mexico because of recent events at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.

There is absolutely no basis for these rumors. Monitoring conducted by Nuclear Waste Partnership of air, soil, water and vegetation are showing no radiation releases that would approach levels causing health concerns.
