EPA to Deploy Mobile Air Monitors to WIPP Within Two Weeks

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich announced Tuesday that within the next two weeks, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will deploy mobile environmental monitoring units to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad.

Sunshine Week, the annual celebration of government openness and transparency ran March 16-22. Leading up to and during the week, events were held nationwide to highlight transparency in government.

Testing Set For WIPP Ventilation System Filter Banks

WIPP News:

An aerosol test to determine the effectiveness of the WIPP ventilation system filter banks is targeted for early next week.

The test will be performed by Los Alamos National Laboratory by introducing aerosolized oil in front of the filter banks then using highly sensitive equipment that will measure the concentration of aerosol particles at the back of the filter banks to determine filter efficiency.

PHOENIX – Refunds totaling almost $760 million may be waiting for an estimated 918,600 taxpayers across the country who did not file a federal income tax return for 2010, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced.

Here in New Mexico, the IRS estimates 7,200 taxpayers did not file a 2010 federal income tax return potentially leaving $5,915,000 on the table. To collect the money, a return for 2010 must be filed with the IRS no later than Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

SANTA FE—Today, Gov. Susana Martinez announced that she has appointed Dr. Paul Daly of Los Alamos to the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Advisory Board. Dr. Daly is a clinic and staff physician at Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico, and previously served as a clinic physician at Acadia Medical Group in Reno, Nev., and Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos.
