SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health announced today a fatal case of plague in an 80-year-old Bernalillo County man. Confirmatory testing was performed at the Department’s Scientific Laboratory Division.
This is the fourth human case of plague in New Mexico and in the United States this year. An environmental investigation by the Urban Biology Division of the City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department will take place at the man’s home to look for ongoing risk to others in the surrounding area.

PHOENIX – The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country. Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer.
