SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health reported today that 331 cases of pertussis (whooping cough) have been reported in New Mexico in 2013.
“Pertussis is very contagious and can cause serious illness―especially in infants too young to be fully vaccinated,” said Department of Health Secretary Retta Ward, MPH. “Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent pertussis. The Department of Health recommends that pregnant women and anyone who is going to be around a baby make sure they are up to date on their pertussis vaccination.” Read More

She and the suspect may be traveling to Ruidoso or Mescalero Indian Reservation in New Mexico.
The child is in danger due to the suspect’s propensity to drink and use drugs.

Treasury and IRS to Recognize Legal Same-Sex Marriages

PHOENIX – The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Thursday ruled that same-sex couples, legally married in jurisdictions that recognize their marriages, will be treated as married for federal tax purposes.
The ruling applies regardless of whether the couple lives in a jurisdiction that recognizes same-sex marriage or a jurisdiction that does not recognize same-sex marriage.
The ruling implements federal tax aspects of the June 26 Supreme Court decision invalidating a key provision of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act.
