Luján Announces $600,000 in Drug-Free Communities Grants

U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District announced today that five organizations in Northern New Mexico are receiving more than $600,000 through grants from the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program.
The DFC program, which is administered by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, is designed to support community coalitions as they mobilize individuals and organizations to reduce youth substance abuse.

The National Park Service has initiated the process to complete a Transportation Plan/Environmental Assessment to improve transportation conditions at Bandelier National Monument.
Over three decades, a number of studies and workshops have documented transportation and congestion management challenges at Bandelier National Monument, including traffic congestion at the park entrance and a lack of adequate parking in Frijoles Canyon.

NMDOT Sponsors Statewide Child Safety Seat Clinic

SANTA FE–The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is pleased to sponsor a statewide child safety seat clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 25.
The clinics will take place in four cities and six different locations as part of the “100 Days and Nights of Summer” campaign that was kicked off late last month.
The clinics are held on a first-come, first-served basis and the service is free and open to the public.

N.M. 599 Bridge Work Starts Aug. 20
NMDOT is alerting motorists to bridge work starting on N.M. 599 on the northwest side of Santa Fe.
The project, which involves grinding, overlay, and joint replacement work, starts Monday, Aug. 20 and will be completed in two to three weeks, weather permitting.
The N.M. 599 bridges being worked on are over Via Abajo at mile marker 7.4, Camino La Tierra at mile marker 10.1, and Avenida Rincon at mile marker 13.9.
The work is being performed by two NMDOT contractors, Meridian and Villalobos Construction Company.

New Mexico Dead Last in Internet Availability

In an age where being connected and having access to information is critical to economic success, U.S. Census figures show that New Mexico is dead last when it comes to households having access to the Internet.
The Census Bureau survey shows that only 64.1 percent of New Mexico households had high-speed internet access in 2010.
The average rate nationwide for Internet access is 71 percent.
New Hampshire is number one with a rate of 86.2 percent.
Even Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Louisiana have higher access rates than New Mexico.

NMDOT Installing New Stop Signs in Espanola
NMDOT News :
The New Mexico Department of Transportation will have additional stop signs installed at two “T” intersections on N.M. 369 in the City of Espanola by Aug. 24.
The additional stop signs will help to improve traffic safety at the intersection of Middle San Pedro Road and Upper San Pedro Road, and the intersection of Middle San Pedro Road and Lower San Pedro Road.
Currently, there is only one stop sign at each “T” intersection.
