NMDOT Mill & Overlay on NM502 Starts Tuesday

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 2, NM502 (Main Hill Road) to Los Alamos will be closed weekdays and Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. while the NMDOT conducts a milling and overlay pavement rehabilitation project. Work will occur from east of East Gate Drive to the Bayo Canyon access road. Access to the East Gate Industrial Park will be maintained from the townsite.

On Monday, Oct. 8, the roadway will be closed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Weather permitting, the project should be complete by Oct. 14. Motorists should use NM4/East Jemez Road truck route. Read More

Los Alamos County Senior Planner Nancy Cerutti retired Friday following 22 years of service. Glass Drop-off Recycling Program Starts Today

Starting Saturaday, Sept. 29, yellow collection dumpsters will be placed at Sullivan Field and the Overlook Park Convenience Center to accept glass bottles and jars of all colors for recycling.

Glass bottles and jars will also be accepted for recycling at the Eco Station. Yellow in-home collection containers are now available at the Eco Station.

‘Mozart on the Rocks’ at Bandelier Begins 4 p.m. Today with Tailgaiting at White Rock Visitor Center!

The community is invited to gather for “Mozart on the Rocks: Opera at Bandelier” with tailgaiting and music.

This special event begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 with tailgating at the new White Rock Visitor Complex on N.M. 4.

Starting at 5 p.m., Atomic City Transit will transport guests to Bandelier with an introduction to the evening’s performance provided by the Los Alamos Opera Guild while in transit.

Operation Hilltopper: Active Shooter Loose at School

Emergency first response organizations in Los Alamos County have for the past year been training personnel, polishing plans and tweaking equipment in a comprehensive effort aimed at preparing to deal with a scenario that nobody hopes will ever arise – an active shooter loose at a school. 

Operation Hilltopper, scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, is a full-scale exercise designed to test police, fire, emergency medical support, Los Alamos Medical Center and Los Alamos High School personnel and their abilities to adequately respond to just such an event.  Read More
