Motorists can expect a relatively open roadway this week with temporary tabs marking driving lanes.

Permanent striping and roadway markings will be placed in approximately two weeks, allowing the latest pavement application adequate time to cure.

As the contractor works to finish up any remaining median or shoulder work, intermittent lane closures can be expected.

Ribbon Cut on North Mesa Disc Golf Course

Los Alamos County Parks and Trails Division Superintendant Jeff Humpton cuts the ribbon to the entrance of the North Mesa Disc Golf Course Saturday. The Los Alamos County Parks and Recreation Dvision held the ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the newly renovated North Mesa Disc Golf Course. Wednesday’s Downpour Spurs Back Road Flash Flood

Looking down from Omega Bridge, a grader and front end loader work on West Road near the Ice Rink to clear debris from the flash flood Wednesday evening. The creek coming down Los Alamos Canyon from the Reservoir becomes a raging torrent that uses the roadway as a streambed in flash-flood conditions. Clean up from that flash flood got underway quickly on N.M. 501 (Back Road) following Wednesday’s downpour. Steve Stoddard of Los Alamos reported that he was returning from an excursion in the Jemez about 6 p.m. and found the Back Road closed due to debris. Stoddard had to detour through White Read More

2012 High Mountain Mudfest Mud Volleyball Tournament Set for July 21

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division is hosting the 8th Annual High Mountain Mudfest Mud Volleyball Tournament Saturday, July 21 at the North Mesa Mud Pits.

Games start at 9 a.m., and each team must have six to 12 players, with a minimum of four women.

The cost is $130 per team. The deadline for registration is 5 p.m., Thursday July 19.

Business Leaders Advocate for LANL Budget

A delegation of New Mexico business leaders will travel to Washington D.C. July 16 and 17 to discuss the importance of Los Alamos National Laboratory to the state’s economy.

The delegation will be accompanied by Gov. Susana Martinez’ Chief of Staff Keith Gardner and Los Alamos County Council Chair Sharon Stover.

Stover is a member of the Regional Coalition of LANL Communities, which traveled to Washington, D.C., on a similar mission in March. .
