NMSP Arrest Federal Fugitive After Standoff In Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE — Around 2 p.m., Aug. 26, 2021, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP), as part of the metro proactive crime suppression and traffic enforcement operation arrested Christopher Perez, 24, of Albuquerque. 

Perez, who had outstanding federal warrants for probation violation on the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm was known through investigation to be inside a residence at 312 Aztec Road NW in Albuquerque.

SANTA FE – Today Attorney General Hector Balderas announced a federal lawsuit against Rovio Entertainment, the developer of the massively popular “Angry Birds” mobile gaming franchise.

FBI: Navajo Man Pleads Guilty To Assault Resulting In Serious Bodily Injury In Indian Country

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — Vance Andres Raymond, 24, of Fruitland and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, pleaded guilty in federal court Aug. 17 to one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury in Indian Country.

Raymond is in custody pending sentencing.

According to the plea agreement and other court records, the defendant committed this offense April 10, 2018, in San Juan County on the Navajo Nation.

Raymond admitted to recklessly assaulting Jane Doe by grabbing her arm resulting in serious injury.         

Raymond faces up to 10 years in prison.

New Mexico State Police Charge Darrien Mells With Murder In Shooting Death Of Albuquerque Man

ALBUQUERQUE — At approximately 4 p.m. Monday, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau was alerted to a homicide that occurred at the Chevron Gas Station, 2124 San Mateo Blvd. in Albuquerque.

Agents learned that at around 3:17 p.m., a NMSP K9 Unit officer on patrol was flagged down by an individual at the Chevron Gas Station. The officer saw a male victim on the ground suffering from obvious and severe head trauma near one of the gas pumps.

FBI: Man From Loving Charged With Transporting Illegal Aliens, Kidnapping And Harboring Faces Up To Life In Prison

ALBUQUERQUE — Eddie Sanchez, 43, of Loving made an initial appearance Aug. 10 in Federal Court on charges of kidnapping, transporting an illegal alien, and harboring an illegal alien.

Sanchez remains in custody pending a detention hearing.

According to a criminal complaint, around December of 2019, Sanchez allegedly began communicating with a victim by telephone and Facebook, and the two began a long-distance relationship.

After several months, Sanchez allegedly informed the victim that he had arranged for her to be smuggled into the United States illegally.

NMPED: What’s Next In Floyd Board Suspension Case?

 SANTA FE — The New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Wednesday indefinitely suspended the five-member school board for Floyd Municipal Schools.

Here’s what happens next:

  • Superintendent Damon Terry is in charge of day-to-day operations for the district.

  • Terry will report directly to NMPED Secretary Ryan Stewart until such time as Stewart delegates supervisory responsibility to others.

  • The suspended school board members will receive a hearing; they are not required to request one.

  • A hearing will be scheduled as soon as practicable, which may be in 60 calendar days.
