Judge Rules Against Maki Yaki In Wage Case

SANTA FE ― State District Court Judge Raymond Z. Ortiz ruled Tuesday afternoon against Santa Fe restaurant Maki Yaki and its owners for violating New Mexico’s Minimum Wage Act and Santa Fe’s Living Wage Ordinance.

He ordered the restaurant to pay plaintiffs Verónica Velázquez, Juan Torres and Ivan Hernández nearly $400,000 in unpaid wages and damages. The plaintiffs were represented by Gabriela Ibañez Guzmán, staff attorney at Somos Un Pueblo Unido’s United Worker Center of New Mexico and Santa Fe attorney Carlos Quiñones.

A man charged federally with aggravated sexual abuse is being sought for allegedly absconding from pre-trial release in Albuquerque.
 
Jan Jay Moolenijzer’s last known location was Tucson, Ariz. The FBI arrested Moolenijzer Sept. 8, 2018 in Albuquerque, after a federal criminal complaint was filed. He was indicted March 27, 2019 on four counts of aggravated sexual abuse.

Governor Appoints Eighth Judicial District Attorney

SANTA FE Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham Wednesday announced the appointment of Marcus Montoya to the position of Eighth Judicial District Attorney. 
 
The district includes Taos, Colfax and Union Counties.
 
Donald Gallegos announced last month that he was retiring effective July 31, 2019. 
 
Montoya will fulfill the remainder of Gallegos’ term, serving until obligated to run in the next general election. He is the senior trial attorney in the office of the Eighth Judicial District Attorney, where he has prosecuted
