ALBUQUERQUE – Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that he, along with the other 49 states and the District of Columbia, has reached an agreement with California-based ride-sharing company Uber Technologies, Inc. (Uber) to address the company’s one-year delay in reporting a data breach to its affected drivers.

State Court Of Appeals Sides With NMFOG In Holding That Public Entities That Provide Incomplete IPRA Responses May Have To Pay Damages

ALBUQUERQUE – In a significant case shining light on enforcement of the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA), the New Mexico Court of Appeals Monday reversed a lower court ruling and sided with the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government (NMFOG). 

The Court’s ruling states that a public entity that provides an inadequate response to an IPRA request may be liable for damages of up to $100 per day.

Attorney General Hector Balderas Secures Life Sentence For Convicted Albuquerque Murderer

ALBUQUERQUE – Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced a sentence in excess of life imprisonment for Ameer Muhammad, the man convicted of the Albuquerque murder of Aaron Sieben in 2017.

Muhammad was found guilty of first degree felony murder, armed robbery, and shoplifting in July after Balderas took the case to trial.

NM Drug Courts Certified Under New Evaluation System

SANTA FE Five New Mexico problem-solving courts have earned certification under a new evaluation process that ensures the treatment-based programs use high quality methods in helping offenders who struggle with addictions that contribute to repeat criminal behavior.

FBI: Navajo Man Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter

ALBUQUERQUE Daniel Jimmy Morgan, 29, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Mexican Springs, pled guilty Thursday in Federal Court in Albuquerque, to a voluntary manslaughter charge.
 
The FBI arrested Morgan Aug. 3, 2016, on a criminal complaint charging him with killing a Navajo man on the Navajo Indian Reservation in McKinley County, July 29, 2016. According to the criminal complaint, Morgan killed the victim by kicking the victim in the head and hitting him in the back and knees with a sledgehammer.
