FBI: Mescalero Apache Man Sentenced For Assaulting Federal Officer

FBI News: 

ALBUQUERQUE – Ryan Joseph Chavez, 40, an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Nation who resides in Mescalero, N.M., was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Las Cruces to eight months in prison followed by one year of supervised release for assaulting a federal officer. 

Chavez was arrested Oct. 16, 2015, on a criminal complaint charging him with assaulting a Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) officer May 6, 2015, in Otero County. According to the complaint, Chavez assaulted the officer while the officer was attempting to place Chavez under arrest.

DWI School is scheduled for 5:30-9:30 p.m., Fridays, Oct. 7, 14 and 21, at Los Alamos Family Council, 1505 15th St., Suite C in Los Alamos.
 
This is the state approved DWI school for those required by the court to attend following a DWI arrest. The cost of the 12-hour program is $175, payable at registration.

Bench Warrant Issued For Byron Henderson

Public Safety Alert:

Sheriff Marco Lucero would like to let residents in Los Alamos County know that an active bench warrant has been issued for convicted sex offender Byron Henderson.

Henderson was recently arrested on another warrant issued by the Los Alamos Police Department. Since that time, he was released and has failed to provide the Los Alamos County Sheriff’s Office with accurate registration information.

The bench warrant issued by Magistrate Court Judge Patricia Casados is for failure to comply with conditions of release.

ALBUQUERQUE  Attorney General Hector Balderas announced Monday that the Office of the Attorney General obtained a temporary restraining order and injunction against a New Mexico attorney, Joshua R. Simms, and a group of non-attorneys who operate a mortgage assistance relief business which operates under the name “Praedium Preservation.”

Heinrich Welcomes DOJ Request To Retrieve Stolen Acoma Pueblo Shield

WASHINGTON, D.C.  U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) welcomed the news that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking a warrant to retrieve a stolen Pueblo of Acoma religious shield that’s being held in France.
 
The shield was scheduled to be sold off by the EVE Auction House in Paris in May, but was cancelled after the Pueblo of Acoma, Senator Heinrich, and others worked to halt the sale.

Nuclear Watch New Mexico Seeks To Invalidate New Cleanup Order For LANL

DOE News:

Nuclear Watch New Mexico amended its complaint against the U.S. Department of Energy and Los Alamos National Security, LLC, which alleges 12 cleanup violations of the 2005 Consent Order issued by the New Mexico Environment Department for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

The amendment is asking the federal court to invalidate the recently issued Consent Order because the Department did not hold a formal public hearing as required by federal and state hazardous waste laws and regulations.

You’ve probably seen a favorite gag scene of mine in the movies.

This one comes from a 1976 flick, The Pink Panther Strikes Again. Inspector Clouseau checks into a Swiss hotel, then sees a dog sitting on the floor. He asks the clerk, “Does your dog bite?” The clerk responds in the negative. Clouseau reaches down to pet the dog, and the dog viciously attacks his gloved hand!

“I thought you said your dog did not bite!”
“That is not my dog…”
