The YMCA’s YESCorps had a fun summer where middle school students received a dynamic and enriching experience through a variety of hands-on activities, from hiking and rock climbing to horseback riding, self-defense training, and CPR certification.

Los Alamos Public Schools To Host Informational Meeting For Potential School Board Candidates Aug. 18

Los Alamos Public Schools will host an informational meeting for potential School Board candidates at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, in the School Boardroom at 2075 Trinity Drive.

Los Alamos County Clerk Michael Rodondo will open the meeting by providing information about the candidate filing process and campaign requirements. ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico Gas Company is holding its annual Native American Scholarship Program banquet on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 26, at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Notah Begay III, founder of the NB3 Foundation, golf professional, four-time PGA Tour winner and NBC Golf/Golf Channel analyst will be the guest speaker.

William Cardwell Baird attended the Los Alamos Ranch School (LARS)  between 1933 and 1936. After leaving LARS, he attended the Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, NY, and in 1940, graduated with a degree in engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca.

When war broke out, William joined a Seabee Battalion and served in the Pacific Theater. He was assigned to various island outposts, including Midway, Tinian, and Palau. LANL Employees Meet Assistance Dogs Of The West

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) welcomed some special four-legged guests May 29 as the nonprofit Assistance Dogs of the West (ADW) paid a visit for an information event. Four staff members from ADW, along with three of their talented service dogs, joined more than 30 employees to outline ADW’s valuable work in training service dogs that help individuals and work in facilities such as courthouses and hospitals. Del Norte Credit Union Supporting Lowrider Charitable Raffle To Benefit Española YMCA Teen Center

SANTA FE — Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU) and the Española YMCA Teen Center announced their joint effort in hosting a Lowrider Charitable Raffle to support youth in Española.

From now until the Española Centennial Celebration on Sept. 28, people across the state can purchase raffle tickets for $50 online or at any DNCU branch to win a 1963 Chevy Impala.
