AdvancED Accreditation Team Visits Los Alamos

A five-member team of educators from New Mexico, California and Minnesota are visiting the district to conduct an educational review of Los Alamos Public Schools.

The purpose of the visit is to provide an external and objective validation of the quality of Los Alamos’ educational system.

Heart Smart Poster Contest Winners Named

FAMILY YMCA News:

The Family YMCA and Los Alamos Heart Council co-sponsored a Heart Smart Poster Contest for children in grades K-6th

Posters were judged on originality and healthy message depicted and winning posters were displayed at the Los Alamos Health Fair.

NEW MEXICO HISTORY MUSEUM News:

Historian Thomas E. Chávez speaks about and signs copies of his new book, A Moment in Time: The Odyssey of New Mexico’s Segesser Hide Paintings (Rio Grande Books, 2012), an anthology that includes 14 articles by prominent scholars, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the New Mexico History Museum Auditorium in Santa Fe.

Superintendent Unveils Draft Strategic Plan

County Chief Financial Officer Steve Lynne provides an update to school board members on the Trinity Site project. Attention Los Alamos High School seniors: Do you need money for college? LAHS will host a Financial Aid Information Night at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 in the Speech Theater.

All interested students and parents are encouraged to attend.

New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation Representative Ruben Reyes will provide information about FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), Scholarships, Grants, Work Study programs and loan programs.

Fundraiser Benefits UNM-LA Scholarship Students

The sold-out UNM-Los Alamos Scholarship Fundraiser held Oct. 12 in the UNM-LA Student Center, raised more than $10,000 for student scholarships.

The event included a silent auction and a live auction with auctioneer Jody Shepard. More than 150 pieces were auctioned to benefit UNM-LA scholarship students.

“These funds will help support our neediest students,” said event organizer Patricia Boyer, director of Student Services at UNM-LA.

Final Day to Buy Rotary Bulbs for Education is Saturday!

ROTARY News:

Mark your calendars! The Rotary Club of Los Alamos will host its final day of flower bulb sales from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., this Saturday, Oct. 20.

The final bulb sale is being held in conjunction with Fuller Lodge Art Center’s annual “Arts and Crafts Fair” at Crossroads Bible Church.

Rotary members will be outside the church doors selling a selection of red tulips, pink angelique tulips and daffodils for fall planting.

The bulbs have been shipped directly from Holland through Dutch Mill Co.
