New Mexico Elected Officials Send Open Letter Encouraging Private Sector Vaccination Policies

SANTA FE — Senior and local New Mexico elected officials sent an open letter to state business leaders and commercial associations Friday encouraging vaccination policies for employees and patrons that can help stem the rising tide of increased COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations.

Update: New Mexico state health officials sent a revised report Sunday indicating there were 6 not 3 new deaths in the state Friday due to COVID-19 and 5 not 2 new cases in Los Alamos bringing the county total to 566.

New Mexico Department Of Health: 50 Percent Of 12-17 Year Olds Have Received At Least First Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) announced today that more than 50 percent of 12-17 year olds in the state have received at least a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and nearly 40 percent have completed their vaccination series.

The announcement comes amid a wave of new infections connected to the Delta variant, which is 2-4 times more contagious than previous strains. In the last two weeks, cases across the country are up 131 percent, and deaths are up 65 percent.

Floyd School Board Suspended For Refusing To Follow Health Orders; Superintendent Is Reinstated

SANTA FE – The five-member Floyd School Board (near Portales) was suspended today after twice voting to disregard the New Mexico Public Education Department’s (NMPED) COVID-19 Safe Practices for school reentry and then placing on administrative leave the superintendent who refused to carry out the board’s wishes.
