Suspected Case Of Wound Botulism Investigated

The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) is investigating a case of apparent wound botulism in a 21-year-old female from Doña Ana County. The suspected source of infection is contaminated black tar heroin.

The patient injected black tar heroin under the skin, also known as “skin popping.” The woman is hospitalized.

This is the first case of wound botulism that has been reported to NMDOH this year. There was one confirmed cases in Doña Ana County in 2017. It is not known if there are other cases in New Mexico, Read More

NMDOH: Wildfire Smoke Health Hazards

With the Ute Park Fire burning in Colfax County, the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) and New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) are monitoring air quality in areas of Northern New Mexico affected by smoke from the wildfire, including Cimarron, Eagle Nest, and Raton.

Over the weekend, NMED set up air quality monitors in Raton and Cimarron. A third monitor is being placed in the Eagle Nest-Angel Fire area today by the US Forest Service.

LAFD Offers Free Project Heart Start Course In Hands-Only CPR At Fuller Lodge Saturday

Los Alamos Fire Department invites the community to participate Saturday, June 9 at Fuller Lodge in a crash course in saving a life with hands-only CPR.

This is the fifth year LAFD offers Project Heart Start to County residents. Three free sessions will be presented at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. by trainers.
