Governor Lowers Flags In Mourning For New Mexico Firefighter Janet Tracy Killed In Apparent Accident

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham this morning ordered state flags to half-staff in mourning for Janet Tracy, a volunteer firefighter in Sierra County who was killed Tuesday in an apparent accident on duty.
According to New Mexico State Police, Tracy, 59, was providing aid to a crash victim south of Truth or Consequences on Tuesday afternoon when she was struck by fire apparatus driven by a fellow volunteer. She reportedly sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Caballo Volunteer Firefighter Dies In Tragic Accident

At approximately 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, a firefighter from the Caballo Volunteer Fire Department in Sierra County died in a tragic accident.

The firefighter was struck and severely injured when the fire apparatus was backing up to better warn and divert oncoming traffic at the scene of a one vehicle accident on Interstate 25 southbound.

Caballo Fire had been dispatched to the scene of the accident to provide aid and support. The firefighter was immediately rendered aid, but died as a result of the injuries.

SANTA FE — The recent Fourth of July holiday weekend was a relatively quiet one on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF), with only one abandoned campfire reported and good outdoor etiquette all around.

Perhaps it was the weather – scattered showers and thunderstorms – but popular camping areas were not packed with people, and patrols found very few issues compared to past years.

SFNF Rescinds Rincon Fire Closure Order

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) Friday rescinded the Rincon Fire closure order that restricted access to a portion of the Pecos Wilderness to protect public health and safety during fire operations.

The closure order went into effect June 16.

Los Alamos Fire Department Fire Marshal Wendy Servey announced today that she is ending Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for Los Alamos County, effective Wednesday, June 30.

Santa Fe National Forest Assumes Command Of Rincon Fire

The Southwest Area Type 2 Incident Management Team 4 will transfer command of the Rincon Fire back to the Santa Fe National Forest, led by Type 4 Incident Commander Andrew Valdez, at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
