Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU) Community Engagement Specialist Kristi Salazar makes a special delivery Wednesday afternoon to Los Alamos County Firefighters at Station 1 on West Jemez Road. Salazar delivered a Thanksgiving feast for the firefighters complements of DNCU. She explained that each year the credit union provides this meal to the firefighters at each station in Los Alamos as well as Española and Santa Fe. Los Alamos Fire Marshal Lifts Level 1 Fire Restrictions

LAFD News:

Los Alamos Fire Department Fire Marshal Wendy Servey announced today that effective today she is rescinding Level 1 Fire Restrictions for Los Alamos County.

“We are fortunate that Los Alamos has received some significant moisture from snow storms in the past week, and more moisture is expected throughout the region,” Servey said.

Servey thanked the community for their cooperation and emphasized a need for continued vigilance in properly attending to and dousing campfires to prevent wildfires.

Santa Fe National Forest To Lift Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will lift campfire and smoking restrictions effective 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, based on decreasing fire danger.

The forest implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions Oct. 23 to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire during extreme drought conditions, historically low fuel moisture levels and high fire danger.

The Carson National Forest and four ranger districts on the Cibola National Forest entered Stage 1 fire restrictions at the same time, an indication of the widespread risk of unseasonal wildfires across northern New Mexico. The Carson Read More

SFNF Plans Burns To Reduce Fuels, Improve Resilience

SANTA FE — Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) are monitoring conditions on the ground to find potential windows to burn piles of woody debris in several previously thinned areas across the forest.

Forest restoration treatments, including thinning and prescribed fire, help reduce hazardous fuels, improve wildlife habitat, and create healthier, more resilient forests and watersheds.

Fire managers will implement the pile burns only if conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and forecasted weather, are favorable for successful implementation. Read More

BLM Plans Prescribed Burn Near San Pedro Starting Monday

BLM News:

TAOS — Beginning Monday, Nov. 9, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Taos Field Office plans to conduct up to a 200-acre prescribed burn near San Pedro in two units.

The first unit is on BLM-managed lands in Santa Fe County on the south side of NM Highway 344, approximately 1 mile east of the intersection of NM Highway 14 and NM Highway 344.

The second unit is on Verbina Road, to the east of the first unit, on State lands.

This operation is weather-dependent and may take up to 30 days, with completion expected by mid-December. On burn days, the San Pedro will be closed, and all members of the public Read More

Luna Fire Consumes 10,142 Acres; 61 Percent Contained

EMNRD-FORESTRY DIVISION News:

The Luna Fire, north of Chacon on the Camino Real Ranger District, Carson National Forest, is now 61 percent contained and remains estimated at 10,142 acres.

Containment lines are holding with no new fire growth detected. No structures are threatened. Firefighters will continue to monitor fire lines, mop-up hot spots, and assess suppression repair opportunities on the state and private lands that are affected.

As temperatures rise and the snow melts off, pockets of unburned fuels and smoldering heavy fuels will dry out and may reignite producing smoke.
