BLM Rescinds Seasonal Fire Restrictions In New Mexico  

BLM News:

SANTA FE — With Increasing moisture and higher humidity statewide, correlating to reduced fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is terminating seasonal fire restrictions in New Mexico enacted by Fire Prevention Order #NM910-20-02.

Beginning at 8 a.m., today, July 28, the restrictions are rescinded on all lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management within the State of New Mexico.

Quemazon Fire Contained, Pipeline Fire Extinguished

COUNTY News:

The Quemazon Fire is contained, but not yet extinguished so the Quemazon Trail remains closed.

Los Alamos Fire Department continues to support U.S. Forest Service crews on that fire today.

Helicopter operations for water runs for the Quemazon Fire have ended and the Los Alamos Reservoir is open.

The Pipeline Fire is extinguished and the Pipeline Trail is open.

Lightning Sparks Colle Fire On Santa Fe National Forest

SFNF News:

Lightning sparked the Colle Fire inside the burn scare of the 2011 Las Conchas Fire in the Jemez Ranger District Sunday, 1 mile east of Aspen Peak and approximately 4.5 miles south of the community of Cochiti Mesa.

Size:  5+ acres

Containment:  0%. The fire is currently in monitor status.

Fuels:  Primarily dead timber and oak brush, with light to moderate fuel loads.

Topography:  Extremely rugged terrain with limited access.

Monsoons Bring Lightning And Other Dangers To Area

It was a busy weekend for dispatchers and firefighters on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) with the onset of the southwestern monsoon season and the accompanying lightning strikes.

The Santa Fe Dispatch Center confirmed 12 active lightning starts on the SFNF since Friday with an additional two possible starts under investigation.

Crews Continue Efforts To Knock Down Quemazon Fire

COUNTY News:

Forest Service crews continue working on the Quemazon Fire with LAFD providing assistance.

Individuals are reminded that entrances to the Quemazon Trail and Pipeline Trail continue to be closed for public safety.

The Los Alamos Reservoir is an active part of fire-fighting efforts underway. 

Members of the public are asked to refrain from visiting Los Alamos Reservoir, as helicopters are resuming water retrieval activities for fire suppression using water from the reservoir. Read More

Storms Have Passed And Firefighters Resume Operations

COUNTY News:

Due to rain Los Alamos Firefighters temporarily left the scene but the storms have passed so they are back at work on the Quemazon fire.

Access continues to be restricted to Quemazon and Pipeline trails.

A helicopter is conducting water drops on the fire using water from Los Alamos Reservoir. Individuals are asked not to travel to Los Alamos Reservoir, which is an active part of fire operations at this time.

Scenes From Fires In Quemazon/Pipeline Trail Area

Smoke billows from one of four fires that ignited overnight near Pipeline Road and Quemazon Trail. Los Alamos Battalion Chief Steve Saiz is the on-duty Battalion Chief overseeing LAFD’s response in assisting the forest service to knock down the fires. The sizes are estimated at under an acre each, Deputy Fire Chief Steve Dawald said. A fire broke out Saturday approximately 1 mile from the San Gregorio Trailhead parking lot on Forest Road 70 and approximately 9 miles from Cuba.

The Public should avoid the San Gregorio Trailhead and San Gregorio Reservoir.
