SANTA FE – The La Cueva prescribed burn near Pecos that was scheduled to start as early as this week is canceled due to the lack of needed snow.

Fire managers will check conditions the first of the New Year.

As early as Dec. 10, fire managers from the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest expected to prescribed burn approximately 372 acres in the La Cueva area through Dec. 31 as weather permitted.

The treatment area is approximately seven miles northwest of Pecos.

USDA Provides Additional Food Disaster Assistance In Three California Counties Hit By Wildfires

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that households in three California counties have been approved to receive Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits.
 
D-SNAP will be offered in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties due to the impact of the Woolsey and Hill wildfires, and Butte County in northern California due to the Camp Fire. Households in the affected areas may be eligible if they have qualifying disaster-related expenses and meet D-SNAP income limits.

La Cueva Prescribed Burn May Start Today Near Pecos

SANTA FE – As early as today, fire managers from the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest expect to prescribed burn approximately 372 acres in the La Cueva area through Dec. 31 as weather permits.

The treatment area is approximately seven miles northwest of Pecos.

Smoke may be visible from the communities of La Cueva, Glorieta, Canada da Los Alamos, La Joya, Apache Canyon, Upper Pecos Canyon, Pecos, Rowe, Las Vegas, Santa Fe and Santa Fe Watershed. SANTA FE — U.S. Forest Service fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin ignitions today through Dec. 14 on Vallecitos piles to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.
 
Crews plan to take advantage of favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality, and weather forecasts, and treat up to 189 acres of piles located three to eight miles northeast of Jemez Springs, one mile southwest of Vallecitos de Los Indios, and north of Cat and San Juan Mesas on Forest Road 135 west of Forest Road 10.

TAOS ― The Bureau of Land Management will continue thinning to reduce accumulated vegetation posing fire hazards in the San Pedro area through the end of December.
