Santa Fe Watershed Prescribed Burn Planned Sunday

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) plan to take advantage of favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality, and winds and weather forecasts to initiate a prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Watershed starting Sunday, Sept. 23.
 
Two separate units expected to be treated within the Santa Fe Watershed total 950 acres and are approximately three miles east of the City of Santa Fe.

Batalion Chief Joseph Candelaria Retires From LAFD Today

Los Alamos Fire Battalion Chief Joseph Candelaria is retiring today – his birthday – after 17.5 years of service to the community. He remembers the day he started at LAFD. Woman Crashes Into Fence At Sullivan Field

A woman driving a small white car around 8:45 p.m., Tuesday reportedly encountered brake failure and crashed into a fence at Sullivan Field on Diamond Drive. Los Alamos Fire Department EMTs treated her elderly male passenger at the scene for apparent minor injuries and transported him to Los Alamos Medical Center as a precaution. LAPS Pilot Initiative: New Safety Assurances At Events

LAPS News:

This is an invitation for comments and suggestions about a pilot safety initiative being implemented this year at Los Alamos Public Schools athletic events.

The pilot program includes a “no re-entry” practice for scheduled games at Sullivan Field, Griffith Gym, Brousseau Gym and Hawk Field. For the safety and security of students and guests, re-entry into athletic events at Los Alamos High School and Los Alamos Middle School is currently restricted.

Conditions, which include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts are favorable for ignitions. Up to 1,000 acres of hazardous fuels may be treated per day by hand and air ignitions in the French Mesa fuelwood area. The total prescribed burn area is 3,580 acres.
