Families Share Experiences Working With Claims Office

SANTA FE — Three New Mexico families are sharing their stories about how the Claims Office has helped them get paid for losses from the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire.

FEMA produced the videos, which are posted on YouTube. The participants did not receive any compensation for appearing in the videos.

Julie Kincheloe and her sister faced the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from scratch. “FEMA was very helpful,” Kincheloe says. “They gave us money. We purchased these sheds that we’re converting into tiny homes.”

FEMA: Agencies To Hold Two Claims Office Resource Fairs

SANTA FE –The State of New Mexico Disaster Case Management Team and United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Partner Network will partner with the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office Advocate Team in Guadalupita and Rociada on two resource fairs.

The Resource Fairs, Jan. 16 and Jan. 18 will provide information one-on-one to those who may have filed a claim or who hope to file a claim. SANTA FE — With the recent and forecast snow fall the Santa Fe National Forest continues pile burn projects across districts. The decision to proceed with each pile burn depends on multiple factors including persistent snowpack, air quality, ventilation, and resource availability.

Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Offices Closed MLK Day

SANTA FE — The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Offices in Las Vegas, Mora and Santa Fe, and the Helpline, will be closed Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Claims Offices and the Helpline will resume operations at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Callers are welcome to leave a voice message and the call will be returned during regular operating hours.

NPS To Begin Prescribed Burns On San Antonio Mountain

NPS News:

JEMEZ SPRINGS — With good snow conditions, National Park Service (NPS) fire managers plan to start burning piles on 225 acres in the San Antonio Mountain Pile Unit of Valles Caldera National Preserve as early as  Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Ignition operations are expected to take multiple days and daily acreage will depend on conditions.

So far this winter, fire crews have completed approximately 137 acres of pile-burning on the South Mountain Unit. These piles will continue to be monitored and an additional 170 acres may be burned if conditions allow.

SANTA FE — The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office Advocate Connects events will continue in 2024. The Advocate team is available each Tuesday and Thursday in January to assist anyone impacted by the fire and subsequent flooding who have questions or concerns about the claims process.

The Advocate Connects sessions are weekly in-person events designed to provide you support, listen to your concerns, solve problems and advocate on your behalf. The sessions are open to anyone interested in learning more about the Claims Office and process.

SANTA FE — The public is invited to join Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) staff to learn more about upcoming prescribed pile burns in the Española Ranger District.
