So many people are sick right now. Los Alamos has been hit hard by the flu, which showed up a little late this year, and a very nasty virus is circulating, keeping people in bed for days. It is down-right hazardous to leave the house.

I had that virus a few weeks ago and it knocked me off my feet for nearly a week. Someone asked me how I felt and I said, “I feel like I have been hit by a bus.” And then I thought, “Oh wait, being hit by a bus is nothing like this!”

Living With Alzheimer’s Talk Offered In Santa Fe

ALBUQUERQUE ― Families facing Alzheimer’s disease will have access to a free education presentation in Santa Fe, offered by the Alzheimer’s Association, New Mexico Chapter.
 
“Living with Alzheimer’s – for Caregivers: Late Stage” will be presented from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, March 3, at Kingston Residence, 2400 Legacy Court, Santa Fe New Mexico 87507.
 
Participants will learn effective ways to communicate, connect with and provide daily care for their loved ones in the later stage of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

Armstrong Bill To Create Public-Private Partnership To Fight Diabetes In New Mexico Passes House

The New Mexico House of Representatives unanimously passed HB 87 Monday, a bill sponsored by Rep. Debbie Armstrong to help reduce diabetes in New Mexico by creating a public-private partnership to help state agencies develop strategies to combat diabetes among the populations they serve.
 
Specifically, under HB 87, the Secretary of Health would convene a Diabetes Committee of state agencies including:
  • The Department of Health,
  • The Corrections Department,
  • The Human Services Department,
  • The Aging and Long-term Services Department

Help Sought For Care Of Injured Red-tailed Hawks

Cottonwood Rehab is in need of help from the Los Alamos community for the care of four injured red-tailed hawks that arrived at Cottonwood Rehab in the last three weeks.

Dr. Kathleen Ramsay is caring for two of the hawks at her home under intensive care. The other two hawks have graduated to outdoor cages. The cost of rehabbing these raptors is around $15/day for food and medication. With a normal rehab time table of about three months, Cottonwood Rehab needs $1,000 to $1,500 to get these hawks back into the wild.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After months of public pressure, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has removed factually inaccurate information from its website.
