Heinrich Delivers Over $5.4 Million To Strengthen Maternal And Newborn Care, Expand Mental Health Care & Substance Use Treatment In Rural Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced three Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) grants he secured totaling $5,416,000 to strengthen maternal and newborn care, improving outcomes for mothers and babies in rural New Mexico, and to expand mental health care and substance use disorder treatment in Gallup and Carlsbad.

Heinrich secured these three grants in the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill.

New Mexico Environment Department Confirms Boil Water Advisory Required For Heron Lake State Park Water System

The New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) Drinking Water Bureau is confirming that a “boil water advisory” is required for the Heron Lake State Park Water System in Rio Arriba County.

Heron Lake State Park Water System was required to issue the advisory Sept. 16, 2024, after turbidity in excess of one NTU was confirmed in drinking water in the water system.

The advisory only applies to the 150 users served by the Heron Lake State Park Water System and did not extend to any of the other surrounding water systems or communities.
