Letter To The Editor: Praise For Pajarito’s Community Approach

By JULIA BOWMAN
Los Alamos

I would like to express my gratitude to Pajarito Mountain for fostering an inclusive environment and nurturing Los Alamos’s long history of snow-centered community.

Among the things I appreciate about Pajarito is the openness to uphill travel during the ski season, be it hiking, snowshoeing, backcountry ski “skinning” and even occasional cross country skate skiing. This openness has supported a thriving corner of our Los Alamos community and makes Pajarito stand out from other ski resorts. Over the course of the season, talking with those Read More

Letter To The Editor: Celebrating The Service Of Denise McCoy

By SHELBY REDONDO
Los Alamos

Denise McCoy is retiring on March 20 after 18 plus years as the Aquatic Center Facilities Manager, the longest serving manager of the center! This letter is to celebrate the exceptional service she has offered our community.

Under her leadership she has handled a variety of problems including the decision when to reopen the pool during COVID while faced with lifeguard shortages and mechanical breakdowns. She was instrumental in addressing major facility projects. She supported and provided input on the design of the new Leisure Lagoon, making a safe and fun facility Read More

Letter To The Editor: Stuck In 1980

By MARK DEVOLDER

When I was younger, retread (recapped) tires were commonplace for automobiles, light trucks and large diesel truck rigs. At that time, I ran retread tires on my vehicles because they were cost effective and helped to protect the environment.

Per the first reference, Merrill Lynch published an advertisement, “Election after election, people concerned about their financial future have pinned their hopes on us.” The advertisement features a campaign button, “Reagan in ’80 – Let’s Make America Great Read More

Letter To The Editor: ‘Communicating Our Objections To Trump’s Actions’

By WILLIAM MEAD
Los Alamos

I will host a Zoom meeting from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 15. The purpose of the meeting is to hone the “Trump Scorecard” (a list of Trump’s harmful actions) into a form that is useful for communicating with the general public.

The draft list currently has 23 entries. The meeting will update, prune, and reword the list as needed.

If you are interested in contributing to the process, please send an email by 9 p.m., Friday to Bill.Mead@ansr.biz requesting a Zoom invitation.

Here are the first 10 items on the draft list:

Letter To The Editor: In Response To Gary Stradling On The Conservative Movement

By RANDAL PAIR
Los Alamos

I am writing in response to Gary Stradling’s item about the Conservative Movement in the March 4, 2025 Los Alamos Daily Post (link).

I agree with much that he said. But as a retired member of the “bloated bureaucracy,” I must take exception of what he says about that bureaucracy.

Mr. Stradling apparently is unaware of the Administrative Procedures Act. As a former bureaucrat, the APA was in essence my bible. Laws passed by Congress (yes, and signed by the Chief Executive) are only able to state goals and requirements in general terms. The many different instances to which Read More

Letter To The Editor: Response To ‘Nietzsche, Nazis & An Inconvenient Gospel’

By CHARLES REICHHARDT
Los Alamos

In a recent  article in the Los Almos Daily Post, Rev. Mary Ann Hill claimed that Friedrich Nietzsche despised Christianity and Judaism and its influence on the Western world. She also implies that Nietzsche was somehow influential in the rise of fascism. Neither point is accurate, nor are they what current scholars adhere to about Nietzsche [1,2,3,4,5]. Unfortunately, the general public has sometimes made such assertions about his work.

Nietzsche was very pro-human dignity, and his criticism of some aspects of Christianity as it is practiced is that it promotes Read More

Letter To The Editor: Science, Statistics, And Trans, Beyond The Basics

By KAYLEE SAYRE
Los Alamos

I’ve received several letters from Gary Stradling and Terry Goldman, and I thought it would be helpful to delve into the scientific basis of being transgender.

First, let’s summarize the key points: Science has consistently demonstrated that being transgender is not a choice. Biology is a complex field, and it’s not as straightforward as XX and XY. The transgender community represents only about 1.3% of the population, making them vulnerable targets for anti-trans groups. These groups often exploit this vulnerability to scapegoat the transgender community, Read More

Letter To The Editor: Regarding Gary Stradling

By TERRY GOLDMAN
Los Alamos

I applaud Gary Stradling’s LTE, but he still hasn’t quite gotten to the full magnitude and complexity of God’s creation. Vis.: “The 0.018% with sex chromosome abnormalities face medical challenges, not new genders, and deserve compassionate treatment.”

The lack of faith, shows up in the term “abnormalities”. If you are any kind of monotheist, you believe that there is only one G-d and that G-d made the entire world (which we now understand to be a Universe) and everything in it. And the best evidence we have is that G-d (deliberately?!) made life enormously complex, Read More

Letter To The Editor: To Our County Planners…

By JAN BARNES
Los Alamos

I guess I’ve been out-of-touch. When did they decide to “develop” the old Fema-ville area? What makes them think that it needs development? That area is currently the hunting grounds for at least one red-tail hawk, the home of many native-species plants, insects and animals, and one of the few “natural” areas left in town.

It is surrounded by a dog park, horse stables, a county garden, a rodeo arena, a dressage arena, a kiddy park, a BMX track, tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball fields and a walking trail. Have people completely lost the ability to amuse themselves? What Read More
