International Champion Quartet to Perform at Smith Auditorium Oct. 24-25

The Los Alamos Lads of Enchantment (LOE) announced Monday that their 2014 Annual Show, Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, featuring the 2010 International Quartet Champion Storm Front has been moved to the Duane W. Smith Auditorium in Los Alamos .

John Baillie, president of the LOE, provided the following rationale for the move: “When it became clear that our usual venue at the United Church would not be in a suitable state due to construction, we made a study of all available performance spaces in the county. Read More

Scenes From Saturday’s Opera on the Rocks

A crowd gathers Saturday in Bandelier National Monument’s Juniper Campground outdoor amphitheater for the annual Opera on the Rocks. Opera Alta presented the abridged performance hosted by the Los Alamos Opera Guild of Guilds of The Santa Fe Opera, Inc., Opera Alta, Bandelier and the Los Alamos Commerce Development Corporation. Don Quixote Distillery & Winery and Black Mesa Winery featured local wines prior to the performance. The Bandelier Trading Company sold food and the Rotary Stars provided cheese and fruit trays. Today I went to grammy.com and got a real education. 

The Grammy organization gives awards to recording artists in 82 categories. I scrolled down the increasingly obscure list of winners, past four categories for rap, past Best Children’s Album, Best Regional Roots Music Album, Best New Age Album, on and on through 70 different categories. 

 At the deep, dark bottom of the list were the 10 categories for classical music.

The Anderson and Roe Piano Duo, noted for their brilliantly choreographed performances, will open the Los Alamos Concert Association’s new season at 4 p.m. Sunday,  Sept. 28 in the Smith Auditorium.

Elizabeth Joy Roe and Greg Anderson met at Juilliard and formed their dynamic partnership in 2002. They have since toured extensively, with notable recitals in Beijing, Seoul, Singapore, Italy, Vancouver, as well as in nearly every New York City venue imaginable including Carnegie Hall.
