There are two questions I’m often asked as artistic director of the Los Alamos Concert Association (LACA). How do you find the artists that appear on LACA’s concert series and how do you entice them to come to this little dot on the map?

LASO Seeks Conductor

LASO News:

The Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra (LASO) is seeking a permanent conductor. LASO is soliciting letters of interest and résumés from interested parties by Jan. 20. Qualified applicants will be called to arrange for an interview sometime in February. Three persons will be selected to audition with the orchestra by conducting one complete concert cycle in the 2014-2015 Season.

The Los Alamos Arts Council’s kicks off its 2014 Brown Bag Performance Series with the Black Mesa Brass Quintet noon Wednesday, Jan. 8 in the Pajarito Room at Fuller Lodge. 

The Black Mesa Brass Quintet was formed in 1990 and still has three of the original five members. Their repertoire is an eclectic mix of classical, modern, pop, and jazz tunes. Taos School of Music Executive Director Kathleen Anderson Knox has announced auditions for Young Artist positions in the prestigious summer chamber music program. 

Approximately 150 of the most accomplished young classically trained musicians will audition for the coveted 19 slots. Christmas Tubas Will Perform Carols

Nothing says Christmas quite like the sound of a brass choir performing carols. This choir happens to be composed of tubas, large and small, and is called Christmas Tubas.

The group was formed in 2002 by local musician Jerry Morzinski, who gathered other local musicians, including accomplished high school students. They play an eclectic mix of arrangements specifically created for a tuba choir. The first performance was in the Los Alamos library.
