At approximately 7 p.m. MDT Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Joint Information Center (JIC) after a radiological control technician detected what was believed to be elevated radiological readings on a filter from an air particulate sampler located where air is exhausted from the WIPP underground.

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) issued two recent updates to this evening’s earlier notification that the Emergency Operations Center was activated.

At approximately 6 p.m. today, Radiological Control Technicians detected minute levels of radiation on the filter at Station B where air is exhausted from the WIPP underground.
