Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has selected Regional Development Corporation (RDC) Executive Director Kathy Keith as the incoming director of the Community Programs Office.

Keith has served as executive director of the RDC for more than four years, joining the organization in January 2011. TAKOMA PARK, Md.  Sister Megan Rice, the 85-year old nun who in July 2012, along with two colleagues, gained entry to the “Fort Knox” of U.S. nuclear weapons complexes in Oak Ridge, Tenn., is one of the “Laureates” to be honored in Washington, D.C. this fall with a 2015 Nuclear-Free Future Award.

At approximately 7 p.m. MDT Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Joint Information Center (JIC) after a radiological control technician detected what was believed to be elevated radiological readings on a filter from an air particulate sampler located where air is exhausted from the WIPP underground.

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) issued two recent updates to this evening’s earlier notification that the Emergency Operations Center was activated.

At approximately 6 p.m. today, Radiological Control Technicians detected minute levels of radiation on the filter at Station B where air is exhausted from the WIPP underground.
