MARY JO VAUGHN Oct. 3, 1927 – July 24, 2019

Mary Joanne Vaughn, age 91, of Albuquerque NM, passed away July 24, 2019. She was a resident of Aspen Ridge in Los Alamos.

Mary was born October 3, 1927 in Chicago, IL. She grew up during the Great Depression and began college at 15 years of age. A “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII, she earned her Baccalaureate in Mechanical Engineering from UNM.

She worked at Los Alamos in Z Division. She was the first female wind tunnel engineer at Sandia Laboratories in the 1950’s. She was a PEO and an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. She Read More

Charles Wisehart Jr., 84, beloved father, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on July 19, 2019. BURTON JAY KROHN May 20, 2019

Burton Jay Krohn, long-time resident of Los Alamos, passed away on May 20, 2019, after fighting a brave, two-year battle against renal cancer. He was 78.

Burton was proceeded in death by his parents, Melvin Herbert Krohn and Lorna Kraus Krohn.

Burton was born in St. Louis, MO, in 1941. At age 10 years old he moved with his family to Nashville, TN, attending Julie Green grade school and Hillsboro High School. BETTY ROSE SCOTT Dec. 23, 1930 – July 12, 2019

Betty Rose Scott of Los Alamos passed away July 12, 2019.

In 1948 Betty and Virgil W. Scott met and married soon after in Alton, Illinois and shared 68 years together.

In 1959 Virgil heard about the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and moved the family there from Illinois. Virgil and Betty raised 4 kids and spent the next 57 years together in Los Alamos.

Betty was such a sweet and caring Mom and Grandmother. Betty never met a stranger; she was friends with everybody. She brought life and light everywhere she went. Everyone she met felt the same.

Jennifer Rachael Long, 32, a resident of Arroyo Seco/Espanola, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandmother, E. Jane Shipman, paternal grandfather, Bob Long and paternal uncle, Dale Long.

Jennifer graduated from Pojoaque High School in 2005. After a few years of college at UNM, she decided to follow her mother’s profession and entered nursing school. She graduated in December of 2012. MICHAEL LEONARD MATUSZAK July 3, 2019

Michael Leonard Matuszak, 79, peacefully passed away on July 3, 2019, surrounded by family.

Michael was recently diagnosed w/ T-cell lymphoma, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in April and decided to fight it by embracing chemotherapy.

Michael was born in Hamtramck, Michigan and married his childhood sweetheart Rosemary in 1962. He was married 57 years. He obtained his PhD in chemistry (inorganic) from the University of Detroit and started his career working for Ford Motor Co in Detroit.

NORMA L. JORGENSEN July 8, 2019

Norma L. Jorgensen, age 77, died unexpectedly on July 8, 2019, after a short, but fearlessly fought, battle against a vicious lymphoma cancer in her liver.

Born in Broken Bow, OK, she grew up on a small ranch in Dorris, CA. She lived most of her adult life in Los Alamos, NM, working in the National Laboratory and raising three children.

MARY M. RANKEN Nov. 28, 1927 – July 4, 2019

After being stopped by police for speeding, F. Stanley Minshall and Tressa Garrett Minshall gladly received a police escort to the Hospital in Albany, Oregon, where their daughter, Mary Jeanette Minshall Ranken was born on November 28, 1927.

Mary grew up in Oregon, graduating from University High School in Eugene in 1946 with a close-knit class of 73 who kept in touch over the years thanks to her best friend, Pat Brooks.
