Letter to the Editor: NM Air Goes Above & Beyond!

February 23, 2014 by Submitted by Carol A. Clark

Frances Meier
Los Alamos

I am writing this letter to tell everyone I can about New Mexico Air. They are outstanding!

Every time I have flown with them, they have shown exemplary service. They are prompt, efficient, courteous and competent. That alone is enough to want to keep them here in business.

NM Air does more than that, though. They go above and beyond to meet the needs of their customers. I have two stories. Last November, our daughter was scheduled to fly up here from Albuquerque on NM Air’s last flight of the day. Her incoming flight from Chicago was delayed, but she called NM Air to alert Read More

Letter to the Editor: There is Still Hope for Humanity

February 21, 2014 by Submitted by Carol A. Clark

Los Alamos

Took my family to The Manhattan Project (formerly Dixie Girl) last night for dinner and managed to lose my wallet. I looked all over for it but could not find it so I went back to the Project and asked if they had found it.

I am Proud and happy to say that they had found it and had it locked up in the back office! I am now with a renewed hope that there are still honest people in this community and I now have a new favorite place to eat!

To all the people who work at The Manhattan Project I SALUTE! Read More

Letter to the Editor: AT&T Service Not Available in Los Alamos But Sold Here Anyway

AT&T Service Not Available in Los Alamos But Sold Here Anyway

There is no AT&T service available in Los Alamos, but that won’t stop them from selling you service. I found this out the hard way and wanted to prevent my fellow Los Alamos folks from falling into the same trap.

I had been with AT&T since moving here in 2008 so I thought nothing of upgrading to a 4G smartphone in October. At this time, I began to experience multiple problems with my phone. After repeated failed attempts at troubleshooting with customer service and technical support over the next Read More

Making a Joyful Noise: White Rock United Methodist Church Needs an Accompanist

One of the greatest physicists in the modern time, Einstein, said “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”

Others have said music is a prayer and a universal language.

Nothing soothes the mind or makes the heart soar more than music. For the congregation at White Rock United Methodist Church, the choir, led by Kelsey Cline inspires us and leaves us with a sense Read More

Letter to the Editor: Urge Gov. to Sign SB 169

Urge the Governor to Sign SB 169

Senate Bill SB 169 would allow the school districts of New Mexico to give one half unit of credit toward graduation for completing a ”summer civics course” as an elective  as is seen in current state law for similar courses.

New Mexico Boys’ State and Girls’ State could be qualified, as it has been formerly on contract with the Public Education Department to provide the course content and material.

Eastern New Mexico University already grants three college credit hours for the course. For all the work these students do Read More

Letter to the Editor: Back to the Future for Pajarito?

February 19, 2014 by Submitted by Carol A. Clark

Board member, Los Alamos Ski Club

Back to the Future for Pajarito?

As a member of the Ski Club board, I’ve heard concerns about ceding control of Pajarito Ski Area to the County or a third party, and sympathize with them. Pajarito has a wonderful heritage that was earned over the years by the sweat and tears of volunteer effort, and it is painful to envision giving it away, no matter what our confidence in the recipient. Members ask us why we cannot return to this heritage, and prosper as a more modest, volunteer-based organization, as we did in decades past.

Sadly, we cannot return Read More

Column: Purpose of 2nd Amendment?

February 18, 2014 by Submitted by Carol A. Clark

BY KHAL SPENCER
Los Alamos

In what’s apparently been an ongoing Second Amendment discussion in the Daily Post, Chick Keller asks “A careful reading shows that the (2nd) amendment uses for its justification of personal possession of guns, the necessity for a “well-armed militia.” Since we no longer have (or need) such a militia, hasn’t that reasoning gone away, and haven’t we returned to a state where individual possession is no longer necessary?” Mr. Keller further opines “This might not mean that people can’t have guns, but it would mean Read More

Column: Billions Sitting on the Sidelines While Critical Ideas Lack Funding

February 18, 2014 by Submitted by CSTadmin

By SEN. TIM KELLER
Senate Majority Whip

As the legislative session winds down and the final budget is crafted, I can’t help but reflect on one of the great tragedies of current state government. With every tax break, education program, special interest and critical line item being accounted for, it is easy to forget that our state government is awash in cash.

There are hundreds of millions of unused tax dollars, excess bonding capacity and thousands of unfilled jobs, tucked away throughout state government. Meanwhile, critical government services, water projects, ‘big idea’ education and Read More

Letter to the Editor: Second Amendment My Mandate And Right

February 17, 2014 by Submitted by Carol A. Clark

By GERALD ANTOS
Los Alamos

Mr. Keller, While I am nowhere close to agreeing with you I will say that if and when our government can guaranty that it can protect my family and I, 100 percent of the time in every way and in every situation, than I will gladly give up my guns.

There is no governmental mandate in either local, state or federal governments to even try and protect us. That being said, the Second Amendment is my mandate and right to self-protection. This is what our founders had in mind when they wrote the 2nd amendment!

Sorry but that is a reality just too obvious to ignore!

Letter to the Editor: Purpose of Second Amendment Questioned

February 17, 2014 by Submitted by Carol A. Clark

By CHICK KELLER
Los Alamos

Having read Ben Carlson’s latest column on the value of restrictions on personal gun possession, I was wondering if anyone else had noted that an argument can be made that the Second Amendment to our Federal Constitution seems to want to prohibit such possession, not allow it.

A careful reading shows that the amendment uses for its justification of personal possession of guns, the necessity for a “well-armed militia.” Since we no longer have (or need) such a militia, hasn’t that reasoning gone away, and haven’t we returned to a state where Read More
