SANTA FE  New Mexico State Senator Howie Morales (D-28-Catron, Grant & Socorro), other legislative sponsors, and law enforcement officials from State, City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County law enforcement introduced promising legislation to stem the wave of auto-theft across the state, and to help catch criminals engaging in it.

I read the column written by Mr. Harry Burgess for last Thursday’s Los Alamos Daily Post about the Safety issues of State Road 4. 
 
This is the only neglected road within a 40-mile radius of Los Alamos. Everyone, including Los Alamos County officials, ignore it although the primary users of this road are residents of White Rock (LA County taxpayers) and Laboratory personnel whose employer pays a ton of taxes to Los Alamos County.

SANTA FE  The House Republican Caucus sent a letter to New Mexico State Auditor Tim Keller yesterday asking him to specifically identify unspent government funds that could be reallocated to other areas of state government.
 
The letter, signed by 31 members of the Republican caucus, cited two reports prepared by Keller’s office that claimed New Mexico had over $4 billion in unspent money sitting in agency accounts.

Rep. Jim Dines (R-Bernalillo) yesterday introduced HJR 8, a proposed constitutional amendment that would establish an independent ethics commission with teeth and transparency.
 
The bill is co-sponsored by a group of southern New Mexico legislators, Sen. Jeff-Steinborn (D-Dona Ana), Rep. Nathan Small (D-Dona Ana), and Rep. Bill McCamley (D-Dona Ana).
 
If passed by a majority in both houses, the measure would go to the voters in 2018 and require enabling legislation.
