Egolf: Stephanie Garcia Richard Is A Champion Who Deserves Reelection

By BRIAN EGOLF, Democratic Leader
New Mexico House of Representatives

Los Alamos and all of House District 43 are incredibly lucky to have a true champion representing you in the New Mexico House of Representatives: Stephanie Garcia Richard. I know Stephanie well and have seen how hard she works for the people she represents. I hope the voters give her another two years to fight for them in the House.

Today, true public servants are hard to find; public servants who put their constituents above all else are even harder to find. Stephanie Garcia Richard always puts her constituents first, even before Read More

Letter To The Editor: Response To ‘LWV Forum Incident’

By GEORGE CHANDLER
Los Alamos

I have no knowledge other than press reports and John Horne’s letter regarding the “LWV Forum Incident,” reported by him in the Daily Post.

But Mr. Horne escalates the incident into “an attempt to suppress political speech” and “an instance of corruption” in the Los Alamos Police Department that supposedly illustrates the need for a Sheriff in Los Alamos. He could not be further from the truth. Quite the contrary, the incident exemplifies the confusion surrounding the Sheriff’s Office and the status of so-called deputies complicating the enforcement of law in Read More

Udall, Heinrich Urge DOD To Restore National Guard Bonuses

SENATE News:

WASHINGTON, D.C.  U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich are urging U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter to restore bonuses and benefits incorrectly awarded to National Guard soldiers through no fault of their own.

The Department has sought to recoup the wrongly awarded benefits after an audit found that, due to faulty paperwork, mistakes by recruiters, and at least one case of criminal fraud, soldiers who did not qualify for the bonuses had received them.

Udall and Heinrich sent a letter led by Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Dianne Feinstein

Letter To The Editor: There’s A Reason Why Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard Has Been Repeatedly Elected

By SUSAN O’LEARY
Los Alamos

I’m writing to ask you to vote to return Stephanie Garcia Richard to the New Mexico State House as our Representative from Los Alamos. As both a citizen and then as a county councilor, I’ve had the chance to see Stephanie in action as we worked together on a number of issues that are important to our community.

While many politicians have gone negative, and while much of our public discourse has turned negative or even hateful; Stephanie has always been a calm, reasonable, measured voice — helping to build bridges and to find solutions to the many problems the State Read More

Letter To The Editor: Support For Sharon Stover For House Dist. 43

DOROTHY CRAWFORD
Los Alamos

I am supporting Sharon Stover for State Representative. I have known and worked with Sharon for years, and she has always been kind, dependable and inclusive. Sharon is a leader with knowledge of Los Alamos and New Mexico, competent and professional.

I am speaking to one issue that has surfaced. Many people have tried to suggest her actions regarding issuing same-sex marriage licenses in Los Alamos County were motivated by bias. Rather than acting from bias, however, Sharon was part of a professional and unified effort by all 33 county clerks in New Mexico to get the Read More

Letter To The Editor: Response To Pereyra

E. ALAN WADLINGER
Los Alamos

I thank Trey Pereyra for his excellent letter and I fully agree with it. I wish to add the observation that compromise is essential in a democracy. By combining competing ideas and positions, we succeed in achieving a best solution. The world is not black and white.

Intelligent people, or those who are willing to think, can see and recognize shades of grey and can find common ground with competing ideas.

We have citizens who have equated compromise with capitulation (especially the tea party types). They should
