Heinrich To Attend White House Tribal Nations Conference, Builds Support For Safeguard Tribal Objects Of Patrimony Act

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Today, U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will attend the 2016 White House Tribal Nations Conference in Washington, DC.
 
Heinrich will meet with tribal leaders and government officials to discuss issues of critical importance to Indian Country, including the Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony (STOP) Act, a bill he introduced to prohibit the exporting of sacred Native American items and increase penalties for stealing and illegally trafficking tribal cultural patrimony.

State Auditor Tim Keller Identifies Millions In Uncollected Revenue

SANTA FE  State Auditor Tim Keller released a special audit of premium taxes collected by the state of New Mexico.
 
New Mexico’s Office of the Superintendent of Insurance (OSI) is responsible for accurate and timely collection of premium taxes from insurance providers that do business in the state. A sample of one-quarter of the total premium tax collected from 2010 to 2015 revealed that the state may have been underpaid at least $193 million just for those transactions. The total amount due to the state for all transactions is likely to be more.

AAUW Holds Voter Registration At UNM-LA In Honor Of National Voter Registration Day Tuesday

AAUW News:

AAUW Los Alamos will hold a voter registration event at UNM-Los Alamos Tuesday in honor of National Voter Registration Day.

Voter registration for US citizens residing in New Mexico is 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of Building 6 on the UNM-LA campus. Those registering need to be 18 years of age or older on or before Election Day, Nov. 8. 

A social security number is necessary to complete the registration. Changes of name and address for those already registered also will be handled.
