Letter to the Editor: Election Years Always Make Me Feel Good

By DONALD WILLERTON
Los Alamos

I’m always happy during an election year. The LADailyPost, for example, has been a continuous stream of encouraging, positive descriptions of how our Congressional representatives have been productive for New Mexico. In fact, since Oct. 13 of last year, there have been (about) 108 citations of Tom Udall, 96 for Martin Heinrich, 41 for Ben Ray Lujan, 16 for Michelle Lujan Grisham, and nine or so for Steve Pierce. In every picture, the smiles are broad and the eyes are beaming.

Why start counting with Oct. 13? Because that’s when the LADailyPost reported a national Read More

Letter to the Editor: Important Decisions In Midterm Elections

By KYLE WHEELER
Los Alamos

Not many people pay attention to the midterm elections, yet we have some very important decisions to make as we cast our ballots.

One of them is deciding on a new judge to send to the New Mexico Court of Appeals. I will support Kerry Kiernan because of his 30 years of legal experience serving New Mexicans. He began his career as a New Mexico public defender and later worked for a highly respect law firm in Albuquerque. His experience is not only broad but it is deep. His professional temperament and work ethic, and his ability to listen to all sides of an issue, make him an excellent Read More

Letter to the Editor: Constitutional Amendment #5 Is A Finagle That Needs To Be Defeated

By VERNON N. KERR
Former State Representative
Former CABINET Secretary for Finance and administration
Former Member of the State Investment Council

Constitutional Amendment #5 is a sleeper that might well pass because it is not easy to understand.

It allows investment of the Land Grant Permanent Fund without the protection of the Prudent Man Rule that has governed the State Investment Council (SIC) management  of the Fund  and served us well since statehood. This rule states that one would make investments of trust money as one would for their own portffolio with essentially minimum
