Local GOP County Convention April 18

The Republican Party of Los Alamos will elect its 2013-14 County Central Committee and officers April 18 at the Jeannette O. Wallace Hall, room 505, at UNM-LA, 400 University Dr.

The County Contingent to the Republican Party of New Mexico Central Committee also will be elected at this meeting.

Registration opens at 6:30 p.m. and closes at 7 p.m., and Republicans registered in the County of Los Alamos are encouraged to attend.

The meeting of the 2011-2012 Central Committee begins at 7 p.m., followed by Ward Caucuses and the County Convention.

Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard To Hold Town Hall Meeting

State Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard will join with the AARP of Los Alamos to hold a Town Hall meeting 1-3 p.m. Friday, April 19 at the Betty Erhart Senior Center in the classroom (lower level.)

All members of the public are invited to attend the meeting where they will be given a briefing on the recent Legislative session and how it impacts Los Los Alamos and New Mexico.

Today, Tuesday April 9, is Equal Pay Day. It marks how far into the year a woman must work to earn as much as a man earned in the previous year.

The day is an unhappy marker of how far we have to go before we close the gender wage gap. This gap hasn’t budged in nearly a decade, leaving women and their families to suffer the effects of lost wages.

2013: Equal Pay Remains Unequal

Today is Equal Pay Day – a day held annually in April to signify the point into a year that a woman must work to earn what a man made the previous year.

Census statistics released in September, 2010 show that women still earn 77 percent of what men earn, based on the median earnings of full-time, year-round workers in 2009.

An alternative to the wage gap, which is measuring the ratio between women’s and men’s median weekly earnings for full-time workers was 80.2 percent in 2009, which is flat since the historical high of 81.0 percent in 2005.

Udall Welcomes FAA Decision to Delay Tower Closures

  • Udall Will Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Block Closures For Next Two Years
 
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Friday U.S. Sen. Tom Udall welcomed the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) decision to delay air traffic control tower closures, including those in New Mexico.
 
He also announced support of a bipartisan bill to halt the closures for the next two years.
 
Last month, the FAA announced it would end funding for 149 air traffic control towers as a result of sequestration.

Los Alamos Federated Republican Women Meets April 16

The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women will hold a meeting noon to 2 p.m., April 16 at the Ridgepark Clubhouse.

Directions to the meeting start at the intersection of Trinity Drive and Oppenheimer (Shell Station) go south on Oppenheimer approximately 0.1 mile, thru the cul-de-sac.

Public parking is along the sidewalk. The room can be chilly, a sweater is advised.

Several Los Alamos County Council Members will speak at the gathering beginning at noon.
