DEA Administrator Receives Rare Honor

DEA News:

DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart became one of the first foreign officials in history to receive Mexico’s Merit of Honor from President Felipe Calderon for her leadership and commitment in supporting the Mexican Federal Police (SSP) in combating organized crime.

The ceremony took place June 2 in Iztapalapa, Mexico.

Bear Springs Fire Update

The Bear Springs Fire’s approximate location is 23 miles South West of White Rock.. 

The fire size is 182 acres. Total personnel are now 160. The fire is burning in mixed conifer and ponderosa pine.

The Bear Springs Fire started at 6:36 p.m. Sunday, June 3 on the Jemez Ranger District, Jemez.

Cause of the fire is lightning in an area of ponderosa pine and mixed conifer.

There are multiple ground and air resources en route and crews the on scene. A Type 3 Incident Management Team has been ordered and will assume management of the fire from the District

Bear Springs Fire Grows to 100 Acres

 

Three lightning fires were reported Sunday in the Santa Fe National Forest.

The Bear Springs Fire in the Jemez Ranger District is exhibiting active fire behavior with running and spotting and had grown to more than 100 acres by this morning.

The two fires reported in Pecos were contained.

Fires Burning in the Region

NEW MEXICO FIRE INFORMATION News:

New Mexico Fire Information reports:

Firefighters will be working through the night to contain three small fires started by lightning.

Two of the three fires are near Pecos. The Church fire is one acre and the Cow Creek fire is one-quarter acre. The largest of the three fires is near Jemez Springs.

The Bear Springs fire is two acres. Spread potential for these fires in low to moderate.

“With extreme fire conditions present, it is important that we hit these fires hard and fast to keep them small,” said Lawrence Lujan, Forest Public Information Officer. Read More

East Park Closed for Paving Through June 20

LOS ALAMOS COUNTY News:

County Pavement crews will begin paving the East Park parking lot Monday, June 4.

Paving activities will require the park to be closed from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily for approximately two weeks.

Activity at the site on Monday will be limited to equipment staging as crews prepare for paving. Paving operations are scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 5, weather permitting, and should conclude by Wednesday, June 20.

The East Park pavilion cannot be reserved for events on weekdays, but will be available for use on the weekends.

Las Conchas Fire Order Closures To Be Lifted

The Forest Supervisor will sign the revised Las Conchas Fire order sometime on Monday, June 4th. For those of us in Los Alamos this means that the closure will be entirely lifted for Los Alamos County. For the Jemez District, it will be entirely lifted for non motorized travel. Canyon Rd between East Road (NM502) and the Myrtle Green continues to be closed to through traffic. Residential access to this area will be maintained; however, residents who park on Canyon Road are asked to park off-street or on a nearby side street. Fire Near Redondo Campground Fully Contained – Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Implemented

A half acre, no structure fire was fully contained Thursday. The fire occured one half mile south of the Redondo Campground. The fire was visible from north of Albuquerque, Jemez Springs, Gilman, Jemez Pueblo and from N.M. 4.

Fuels on the ground are dry due to the lack of moisture and are creating a fair amount of smoke. A fire investigator is also on scene. The fire was in the Jemez Ranger District.
