Catch Of The Week: That ‘Urgent MVD Ticket’ Text Is A Scam

Some New Mexicans are getting a text message that looks like it came from the Motor Vehicle Division. It claims you have an unresolved traffic ticket and warns that enforcement begins March 7 unless you pay immediately.

The message lists a series of consequences. According to the text, failure to act could lead to suspended driving privileges, suspended vehicle registration, collection agency fees, and even credit score damage.

That is a lot of legal drama coming from a random text message, and that should be your first red flag here. Read More

FBI: Mescalero Man Gets 11 Years For Abusing Minor

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — A Mescalero man was sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexual abuse of a minor.

There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court records, Feb. 15, 2025, John Albert Carrillo, Jr., 36, a member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, used force to commit a sexual act with a minor victim.

Carrillo pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor. Upon his release from prison, Carrillo will be subject to 10 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender.

ALBUQUERQUE — Friday, March 6, 2026, the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico appointed Phillip G. Sapien as Part-Time United States Magistrate Judge. The position, which is for a 4-year term, is located in Farmington.
