KIRTLAND AFB — The Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate spaceflight experiment Recurve was launched July 2, from the Mojave Air and Space Port on the Virgin Orbit space system.
The launch supported the U.S. Space Force’s STP-S28A mission and carried six additional payloads for the Department of Defense Space Test Program (STP). Read More

Deb Lewis’s passion for the Lab and its mission began with her first job here in January 1993, when the University of California was in charge of the management and operating contract. Lewis was hired as a Project Controls engineer for waste management through a UC program that helped non-traditional-aged college students jumpstart their careers. The program had enough funding to keep Lewis employed for two years, then she could strike out on her own, knowing she had some great experience under her belt. Read the full article

Recent advances in remote sensing and modeling have opened the door to taking a deeper look at how the physical makeup of various plant species, particularly their carbon and water content, interact with fire. Accounting for these dynamic vegetation characteristics will improve not only the ability to better understand fire behavior but also fire effects and fire’s role in healthy ecosystem dynamics.
