Hmmm … in the news this weekend is that Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos’ divorce is finalized. Since MacKenzie will no doubt get a large chunk of the Bezos fortune, that’ll likely drop ol’ Jeff down the “richest men” category a few notches. But … I doubt that he’ll have trouble finding a date nonetheless. MacKenzie, either. Too bad, though; it’s always a sadness to see a couple lose the love with which they began.

Next week the Los Alamos Faith & Science Forum presents two lectures by Professor Warren Brown.

Brown is director of the Lee Edward Travis Research Institute and professor of psychology in the Department of Doctoral Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif.

Professor Brown has co-authored several books including Did My Neurons Make Me Do It? Philosophical and Neurobiological Perspectives on Moral Responsibility and Free Will. Oxford, U.K., Oxford University Press, 2007.

The annual White Rock July 4th celebration will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 366 Grand Canyon.

The Children’s Parade will begin after a brief flag ceremony and singing of the national anthem at 10 a.m., surrounding the flag pole in front of the Church.

While reading a text from one of the saints this weekend, a certain phrase rather leapt from the page: “…you are a most desirable friend”—the saint (Paulinus of Nola) thanking the recipient for a great favor done for a kinsman.

Would that we all comport ourselves in relationships so as to deserve such tribute! But … as we all have no doubt experienced—and might be ashamed to admit of ourselves—we often fall far short of such admiration … likely being viewed by—or, to our discredit, viewing—others as vehicles to selfish gain.

United Church Thrift Shop $6 Bag Sale Wednesday

The Thrift Shop at the United Church of Los Alamos is holding a $6 bag sale, (jewelry excluded), 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday at 2525 Canyon Road.

The United Church Thrift Shop is operated by the Womens Christian Service Society (WCSS).

Donations are accepted of gently used and clean clothes, linens, housewares, jewelry, shoes, toys and children’s books. No large appliances, furniture, books or VHS tapes can be accepted. Donations may be dropped off any time at the bins near the door at the lower level of Craig Hall.
