Saint Job Orthodox Church will host its 20th Annual Blini Breakfast Saturday, March 9.

Blini, a type of thin pancake, will be served in traditional style with smoked salmon, herring, butter and sour cream. Vegetable caviar, eggs, cheese and a variety of berry preserves will be available as well.

United Church Thrift Shop Half Price Sale March 13

The United Church Thrift Shop is having a half price sale on men’s, women’s and children’s coats, jackets, blazers, sport coats, sweaters, sweatshirts and also shoes.
 
The sale is 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 at 2525 Canyon Road.

The United Church Thrift Shop, operated by the Women’s Christian Service Society (WCSS), accepts donations of gently used and clean clothes, linens, housewares, jewelry, shoes, toys and children’s books. They cannot accept large appliances, furniture, books or VHS tapes.

Former White Rock resident Trina Granillo returned last week from Africa where she distributed 30 bicycles to residents in Lilongwe, Malawi.

“The joy on the faces of those given a bike was as if I had bought them a new car,” Granillo said. “I pray to go back next year and do the same … except my goal is 500 bikes. I’m not sure how I will manage but I have 10 months to raise the funds.”
