Pastor Raul: The Light Of The World―Part 1

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO

There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast. – Charles Dickens

Christmas lights are a beautiful part of the advent season. I know they bring joy to me, and my kids are still at the age where they are absolutely enamored by them. Of course, Christmas is over, and the lights will begin coming down. This may be a perfect metaphor for far too may people. That is to say that their lives may have brief seasons of light and beauty, but the darkness and sorrow may seem to be more consistent. The darkness

Scenes From LA Big Band Christmas Dance At IHM

Los Alamos Big Band Dance performs Thursday night at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall on Canyon Road. The band performed a mix of classic big band songs and holiday tunes. In addition to live music, there was dancing and refreshments. The event was a fundraiser for youth programs at the church. Photo by Kirsten Laskey/ladailypost.com

Fr. Glenn: Blessed Are The Meek

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
Los Alamos

Ah, ‘tis the Christmas season—a time of joy for the billions of Christians throughout the world as we celebrate the birth of Jesus over two millennia ago. The nativity of Jesus (obviously) necessarily precedes in time and gets more press, but many non-Christians may not realize that Christmas is NOT the biggest Christian celebration of the year. The most important celebration is actually Easter with its celebration of Jesus’ resurrection from death, leading to our accompanying belief that He is the “first born from the Read More

Fr. Glenn: Laying The Foundation

By Rev. Glenn Jones

Perusing local news, we see recent stories of brawling young lads at Smith’s … young lads walking quite unwisely across ice at Ashley Pond. I couldn’t help but remember my own days of teenage male youthfulness—the testosterone-fueled drives of pride and combativeness in young males, which so easily turns to rage—something seen throughout the animal kingdom.

Young men typically have feelings of inadequacy due to yet-unproven manhood and the longing to remedy such perceived deficiency—mine own exacerbated by Read More

Saint Job of Pochaiv

First, I’d like to thank the Los Alamos Daily Post for dedicating the space for churches to post their schedules for Christmas services. It is a good thing to gather together in thanksgiving and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

You may or may not have noticed that Saint Job of Pochaiv was not included on that list last week. This was not an oversight. We do in fact celebrate the birth of Christ; it is a feast second only in rank of honor to the Resurrection at Pascha (Easter). Read More

Pastor Raul: Put Christ Back Into Christmas

By Pastor Raul Granillo
La Vista Church of the Nazarene
White Rock

The beginning of the good news about Jesus Christ, God’s Son, happened just as it was written about in the prophecy of Isaiah: Look, I am sending my messenger before you. He will prepare your way, a voice shouting in the wilderness: “Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight.” (Mark 1:1-3 CEB).

By now, most of us who celebrate Christmas have already set up our trees, hung the lights, purchased the gifts (or at least placed them into our virtual carts), and made plans for the holiday season.
